The Joyce Kilmer Slickrock
Wilderness is located in western North Carolina on the Tennessee
border. Roughly equi-distant from Chattanooga, TN, Knoxville,
TN, and Asheville, NC., the wilderness is about three hours drive from
Atlanta, GA. Located mostly in Graham County, NC, the
wilderness is part of the Nantahala National Forest's Cheoah Ranger
District, located in Robbinsville, NC. the county seat.
Graham County has only some 8,800 inhabitants, with tourism
being a major employer.
